Is Your Needlepoint Rug out of Shape and in Need of Cleaning?
Have you noticed your needlepoint rug is starting to lose its square shape? Or, have you had it cleaned recently and it doesn't look quite the same? Your rug is losing, or has lost, what is known as its "blocking" and "sizing".
When a needlepoint rug is crafted, the finished piece is a parallelogram shape (below left). The rug is then blocked and sized to a rectangular shape (below right). Over time, most needlepoint rugs will seek their normal bias. When they are exposed to moisture (such as washing), they revert to their pre-blocking shape.
Because needlepoint rugs require special attention, it is important to select a cleaner who utilizes proper cleaning, blocking, and sizing techniques. At Needlepoint Rug Cleaning, we have the equipment and expertise to properly care for your rug.
